President & CEO
Matt founded Republic in 2019 after a 10-year career helping to grow some of Canada’s largest development firms. Matt is responsible for the oversight and management of Republic and remains specifically focused on project development, acquisitions, human resources, and capital raising activities.
With over 10 years of experience in the real estate development industry, Matt has built a track record of executional excellence, having managed the development of over 7,000 units to date representing approximately 5.4 million square feet and a development value of over $4.3 billion dollars. Notable projects Matt has been involved in include Bisha Hotel & Residences, The Yorkville Condominiums, The Bond Condominiums, Karma Condos, INDX, 155 Redpath, 150 Redpath, The Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos, E2 Condominiums, Azura Condos and most recently, the acquisition and development of Bloor & Dufferin, a 7.3 acre master planned community in downtown Toronto.
Prior to founding Republic, Matt was VP of Development at Capital Developments where for seven years he led all development activities and helped grow the business from a start-up builder, to one of Toronto’s preeminent development enterprises.
Matt is an avid cyclist and is the co-founder of UNC (United Nation of Cyclists), a cycling club dedicated to growing the sport through inclusivity and diversity.
Senior Vice President & General Counsel
Shael brings over 10 years of unique industry experience to his role with a focus on mixed use, multi- family, and commercial projects. As Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Shael is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operating activities of the company and providing strategic legal advice to the organization.
Prior to joining Republic, Shael held an executive role with Starlight Investments and was the former President and Chief Operating Officer at Freed Developments, where he helped manage and oversee various areas of the business, including, acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, zoning, design, sales, construction, reporting, marketing initiatives, and customer care.
Shael holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree from the University of Guelph and a law degree from Queen’s University.
Shael, in his spare time, enjoys spending time with his family, being active, watching documentaries, socializing with friends, and trying new Toronto breakfast spots.
Vice President, Accounting & Finance
Arben is an experienced finance professional with over 20 years’ experience focusing on financing, accounting, tax, and consulting. As Vice President, Finance & Accounting, Arben is responsible for overseeing all project accounting, corporate accounting & finance, and tax planning.
Prior to joining Republic, Arben was VP Finance for Freed Developments (2017-2019) where he led the accounting team and oversaw all day to day accounting functions, along with corporate tax strategy, financial reporting, and internal audit. Prior to this, Arben was CFO for JLT & Associates (2003-2017).
Arben is a CPA (Ontario), and holds an MBA degree from Schulich Business School, and a Bachelor of Science degree (Mechanical Engineering) from Polytechnic University Tirana, Albania.
In his spare time, Arben enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, playing soccer, and running.
Igor is an experienced development professional with expertise in planning, policy, and land economics. As Development Manager, Igor is responsible for managing the planning, entitlement and permitting stages of projects, including stakeholder and community relations, and acquisitions and underwriting due diligence.
Prior to joining Republic, Igor helped secure approvals for numerous mixed-use projects across Toronto and supported the production of several land use plans as a consultant with urbanMetrics and senior planner with the City of Toronto and Ontario Growth Secretariat. Notable projects Igor worked on include Unilever (East Harbour), Mr. Christie’s, Celestica, the Well and Union Park, as well as plans such as the Growth Plan, Fair Housing Plan, the Downtown Plan (TOcore), Golden Mile Secondary Plan, and the Retail Design Manual.
Igor completed his bachelor’s and masters degree in Geography at Ryerson University. He continues to be involved with the Department as a sessional lecturer and Finance Committee Chair of the Alumni Organization. Igor is also a Registered Professional Planner and is an active member of the Urban Land Institute.
In his spare time, Igor enjoys swimming, soccer and tennis, travelling, exploring diverse culinary delights, and playing the guitar and piano.
Associate, Finance & Investments
Avery is an accomplished real estate investment professional with a focus on residential development. As Associate, Finance & Investments, Avery is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and structuring acquisitions, project financing, capital management, fundraising and investor relations.
Prior to joining Republic, Avery was a key member of the Investments team for TAS (2019-2021) where he was responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and structuring the acquisition and disposition of investment opportunities within the GTHA in addition to helping manage TAS’s private equity platform.
Avery is a passionate golfer, and foodie. In his spare time, you can either catch him on the links or hunting down Toronto’s hidden gem restaurants with his friends.
Anthony joined Republic in 2021 and is a creative, product-focused development leader with a passion for city building. As Associate, Development, Anthony is responsible for managing projects through the planning, entitlement, and permitting stages, including stakeholder relations and due diligence support on project underwriting and acquisitions.
Prior to joining Republic, Anthony supported acquisitions and planning teams at JD Development Group, acquiring sites and assembling consultant teams for low, mid and high-rise residential projects throughout the GTHA and surrounding secondary markets.
Anthony holds a Masters of Real Estate & Infrastructure from Schulich School of Business and a Bachelor of Business Management and Organizational Studies with a Specialization in Consumer Behaviour from Western University.
In his spare time, Anthony enjoys the outdoors and spending time with friends experiencing the diverse culture, food, and neighbourhoods throughout the city. Anthony is also actively involved in various committees within the Schulich Real Estate community and helped develop the school’s first formalized Real Estate Mentorship Program.
Adrian is an experienced capital markets professional with an entrepreneurial background. As Associate, Adrian is focused on realizing the business objectives of our projects. This includes supporting and collaborating with both the finance and development groups, assisting the leadership team to make key business decisions throughout the development life cycle, and ensuring strong execution of the projects.
Prior to joining Republic, Adrian worked at RBC Capital Markets in the firm’s Investment Banking Division. In that role, he advised financial institutions on public and private market transactions including mergers and acquisitions, financings and strategic opportunities. Additionally, Adrian co-founded a healthcare company in the med-tech sector.
He holds an Honors Business Administration (HBA) degree from the Ivey Business School at Western University. During his spare time, Adrian enjoys travelling, reading, exercising and hiking.
Chris joined Republic in 2022 as a Project Coordinator. Chris provides support to all teams within the company, assisting them on various projects with a particular focus on branding, marketing & sales activities. In addition to these responsibilities, Chris manages our social media and digital strategy.
Prior to Joining Republic, Chris managed social media and digital marketing campaigns for numerous organizations.
Chris received his BA from Western University in 2022. As a former competitive runner, he spends his spare time working out, as well as DJing, and travelling.
